Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Whoever does not give up forged speech and evil actions, Allah is not in need of his leaving his food and drink (i.e. Allah will not accept his fasting.)"

[Sahih al-Bukhari, 1903]

EXPLANATION:

1. Fasting is a physical and spiritual worship. It becomes physical worship because it demands that everyone who fasts restrains hunger and thirst, as well as from doing other things that invalidate the fast.

2. Fasting is said to be spiritual worship because it demands that everyone who fasts not only perform physical but also spiritual worship by fasting from all things including speech, deeds and crossing mind from all things that will reduce the reward of fasting and immorality.

3. Among the things that are forbidden in Islam are speech and deeds that lead to lies. Therefore, every Muslim should refrain from conversing with false practices so that the fast of worship performed is rewarding and not in vain, and produces spiritual benefits for the fasting person.
